What Inspires Me?

There are some questions I have been asked over and over again,,,

I thought I would put them in one post that I hope it would end up inspiring you somehow..

  • What keeps you going?
  • Why do you do what you do?
  • What inspires you?
  • Are you ever going to quit?

Let’s first begin by giving you a brief on what I do, in case you’re a first time reader.

I am a freelance photographer. I have a passion for photography and it turned from passion to profit.

& I receive those questions occasionally, but I never really knew how to answer them properly. Maybe right now as I am writing this, I could explain my answers in a better way.

Here we go,,

The love that I have for photography is pure and I believe this passion within me keeps pushing me to do it, otherwise I would have stopped  long time ago.

This is why you should take the time to find out what is it that you really love.. What are you passionate about? Not all of us know exactly what we want. So take the time to figure this out.

Yes, there are those days that I truly don’t want to shoot or I just decline any offer but that’s very human of me.. Don’t you have those days when sometimes you don’t want to do anything??

I found out in the first year of holding the camera and getting to know it, that it makes me happy. Somehow I zone out when taking pictures which makes me feel overwhelmed.. (in a good way of course)

I cannot contain the answer of what inspires me in just few words, because I believe that I am inspired by anything and everything..

I might hear a music lyrics, the morning breeze, a movie script, my cup of coffee or the food on the table, waking up early or staying up at night. The list goes on to even the strangest moments or parts of the day.

The whole idea is to pay close attention to what moves you.

Am I ever going to quit?

Let’s first acknowledge the fact that I am not a quitter. I grow. I learn. I never let go of something unless it was actually and literally harming me or just not serving me any good.

If I ever stopped doing photography, it would definitely be for a good reason. Either to move on to something better, or maybe I’d find my happiness else where.

If I would want to give you an advice, it would be:

→ Find out what you love and yes, make it your career if you want but never think of it as a job.

When it’s a job then you ‘have‘ to do it… and you’ll find yourself at times procrastinating because most of us find it hard to do things that we have to do and rather do those things that we just want to do.

For example, I used to work in a media company and my job was a photographer…

I found out that when I had to go shoot things that I didn’t like or didn’t believe in, it would be very hard, less creative and less productive. I felt the heaviness over my shoulders and would take any excuse just not to go… Unlike my freelance work, I felt more free, and I am able to shake things up  and do what I wanted to do.

No limitation which made me feel that I am able to create and build ideas in the way I see them,, instead of following a fixed format that I wasn’t sure of yet I had to do..

It is just a matter of time and some soul searching.

Some quotes to trigger you:

“People with great passion, can make the impossible happen.”

“Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire”

“Anything that gets your blood racing is probably worth doing it.”

“Obsession is essential to creativity.”

“I have no special talent, I am just passionately curious.”

“Do it with passion or not at all.”
